Nuno Felting

The bonding of fibers to fabric.  Most often silk or a silk chiffon is used.  Silk is a protein fiber which bonds well with the animal fibers.

To create light & airy scarves, the silk chiffon can be covered with a light layer of fibers so that the silk (sometimes dyed) will show through.

For a unique design, some of the silk is left uncovered and will shrink at a different rate than the animal fibers creating a distortion effect

This method can also be used to create large pieces of fabric, shawls or art.

Nuno Felted Scarf Workshop

In this workshop you'll design and create your own scarf.  Of course you'll have as much design help as you need.  Create details, make an abstract or a picture.  It's all up to you.

You'll learn how to keep the design in tact as your bond the fibers to the silk.
